Balanced Salt Solution (BSS), also known as physiological solution, is a solution that combines the buffering power of a buffer solution, the isotonicity of physiological saline, and the nutritional supply characteristics of a culture medium. It has the function of maintaining osmotic pressure, maintaining pH stability and providing simple nutrition, which can meet the basic needs of survival and metabolism of tissues, organs or cells in vitro experiments.
Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) is one of the most widely used balanced salt solutions in biochemical research. It is often used for washing tissue blocks, washing cells, transporting cells or tissues, preparing other reagents, and as a diluent for cell counting.
